In July 2004, the homes of five Palestinian-American families were raided by federal agents, resulting in the arrest of the five dads. The first trial of the "Holy Land Foundation Five" ended with a hung jury, while the second trial, marked by highly questionable procedures, led to very lengthy sentences. This was all for the alleged crime of "supporting terrorism" by donating to charities that had long been working with the U.S. government and other respected international agencies.
Human rights activist and author Miko Peled began investigating this case in 2013. He spoke with the men's lawyers about the miscarriages of justice and heard from the men's families about the devastating effects the case had on their lives. In addition, Peled conducted in-depth interviews with the men at the remote federal prison complexes where they were held. "Injustice" provides a detailed account of the labyrinthine course of this case and presents a chilling picture of governmental overreach in post-9/11 America.
